INDEPTH NEWS LETTER ISSUE 82
CHAIRMANS REPORT
Hello to all Members of the Submariners Association.
I am going to start my Chairman’s report by congratulating our editor Barrie Downer on his well-deserved Patron’s Commendation, presented to Barrie by our new Patron – Admiral Sir James Perowne KCVO, KBE.

Iain Mackenzie MBE
The good news keeps on coming! Rear Admiral John Weale CB, OBE has agreed to be our Vice Patron.
That now gives us Admiral John Weale, and Commodore Jim Perks who were both key players in the conception of TSF on our books.
I know there is a lot of conjecture going around the mess decks about a new SA Crest. To stop the whispers I can tell you that the SAC are discussing the possibility of changing the crest design, a design that will be more appealing to the younger members and yet satisfy the older members.
This project has been taken on by the Vice Chairman Andy Knox, who has been investigating a more 21st century look. Not as simple as one would assume.
The SAC will choose 3 designs then the National Secretary will send out a One Member One Vote form to all members asking you to select your preferred design or to remain with the current design.
I must stress there is no hurry in this project and whatever the choice is no member will be forced to change his blazer badge.
We are coming to the end of the period (Mid-2024) where we ring fenced £60K from our National Funds in case TSF failed. The question has been put to all Branches on ideas for spending this money? Branch secretaries have been requested to forward your ideas to the National Secretary.
More good news, we are buying 3 gazebo’s with the SA Crest on them to be made available to all branches for local events – again to promote the Association. Details will be published when known.
