Hog Roast

Calshot Catering supplied the Hog Roast

Article By Ian ‘Pony’ Moore

On a glorious summers evening at the RNA Club in Gosport, around 100 Gosport Submariners Association members, family and friends gather for the inaugural hog roast. An excellent evening arranged and organised by the Social Sec Charlie McKee with the assistance of volunteers and members of the committee. The President of the Gosport Branch, Captain Chris Groves and his good lady wife Clare ensured decorum was maintained (ish….!). We were also delighted to welcome a contingent from the Portsmouth branch.

A group of trainees from HMS Collingwood were also invited.

The evening was made extra special by the presentation of a membership card to new member Mike (Razor) Edge an ex-CPO Ops Sonar.

Full Membership was awarded to Steve Barnes, who had previously been an associate member, for his unstinting support of the Gosport Branch and for his voluntary services at the Submarine Museum over a number of years.

The Chairman of the Gosport Branch, Steve Thorpe, made the presentations on behalf of the Branch and both Razor and Steve were greeted into the Branch with a round of applause (and the usual barracking…!!).

A full house was in attendance for the evening with extra seating having to be brought in from other areas of the club.

The Petites

‘The Petites’

Entertainment was provided by ‘The Petites’ who performed two brilliant sets hitting exactly the right style of music for all those present. Dance floor entertainment was provided by Tex Tubritt (in his inimitable and unusual style!!) and a contingent of submariners under training from Collingwood.

Calshot Catering supplied the hog roast which proved more than ample for those who wished to go ‘round the buoy’ again….who shall remain nameless unless the stuffed envelopes are not forthcoming!

All in all, a brilliant evening. Well done (civvies) BZ (submariners) to all.
