Morecambe Bay Branch of the submariners association April Branch Meeting 2024.

The Morecambe Bay Branch of the SA met for their monthly meeting on Friday 5 Apr and managed to get 16 of the 28 members in the same place, to remember those that have gone before and to share the opinions of the group with each other.  After remembering our recently departed and eldest Branch Member, John Orton, as well as a close friend of the Chairman, William (Brigham) Young, in the traditional manner, the business of the meeting commenced.

The Secretary gave an excellent debrief from the AGM/Family Reunion, held in Belfast.  The members present were surprised, however, with the apparent low number of branches attending and of those actively participating in the recent vote to hold Remembrance Services at the NMA, proposed by the Hull Branch.  A lengthy and energetic discussion was initiated about the SA and its purpose in the running of the Branches as well as how to recruit serving members.  The MBSA are fortunate to have 2 serving members in the group, but would welcome more, should they wish to join us.

The social calendar was laid out with the upcoming memorial and joint events, with the Barrow Branch, mentioned as well as the longer-range events for Trafalgar Night and Christmas.  All members in attendance were in good health and provided a considered and courteous dialogue to the meeting with bouts of the usual submarine banter thrown in, to keep the Secretary on his toes with the minutes.

We hold our meetings on the first Friday of the month in the Commodore Club in Heysham and welcome any submariners in the area to come and see what we are doing in the community to help keep the profile of the Submarine Service in the minds of the residents of this small seaside town.  Please contact the Secretary, Mark Lister, if you wish to come along and participate in the meeting, I have attached a photograph of the motley crew in case you recognise one us and it prompts you to get in touch.
