Petty Officer Gould VC
Blue Plaque Update
I have been in contact with the appropriate people in Dover for an update on the refurbishment of the Maison Due (Town Hall).
I have been informed that the programme for building work is only just beginning on the main contract.
Work on the roof is complete (not part of the main works), but the insertion of the new opening in the west front, insertion of drains, toilets, kitchens, lift and the work to remove a section of the floor is still some way off.
Estimated Date for SA Ceremony
The final handover from the main contractor is in the late summer/autumn of 2024 and then a fit out period. Currently under discussion as to duration, requirements to reinstall the paintings, colours, armour etc.
The completion of the refurbishment is therefore quite some way away still.
We are therefore looking, hopefully, at Spring 2025 when the interior will be completed and it will be available for the Submariners Association to conduct the ceremony to mount a Blue Commemorative Plaque to Petty Officer Gould VC.
Further Updates
I will continue to keep the National SAC informed.
