Our lawful basis for the collection and retention of your data is based on your continued consent. This consent is either by registration as a member and or usage of our website.
As a voluntary association of both serving and veteran submariners we ask for your consent in collecting your data when registering to become a member.
If consent is not obtained, membership of the association is not possible.
The website provides functionality that allows registered users to share personal information with other registered users.
This functionality requires specific consent and can be revoked and reinstated by a member without affecting their membership.
This functionality is entirely under the control of the individual member.
The association does not make members profile information available to other members.
Association officials such as the Webmaster, Membership Secretary, Association Secretary, Slops Manager and Treasurer have access to this information where legitimate reason exists.
We use your information to validate your eligibility to be a member or to continue to be a member. We also use your data to offer you appropriate support whilst a member.
You may request details as to what information we hold about you. The option to download and delete your data exists from your member account.
Removal of your consent will result in your membership being terminated and access to members only areas removed.
Executors, or individuals with Power of Attorney may request removal of your data using the contact us form.
General Website Usage
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
The Submariners Association reserves the absolute right to enable or disable comments functionality at any time.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
If you upload an image then you must have the legal right to use the image. By uploading an image you agree to its use by the Submariners Association or its successors.

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website we also store the personal information they provide in their account.
All members can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
