Peak District Challenge Raises Over £16,000 for Veterans with Cancer
May 24, 2024

May saw the much-anticipated return of Military vs Cancer’s Peak District Challenge—a three-day fundraising feat geared to raise funds for military personnel suffering the effects of cancer, and their families.

Participants took to the Derbyshire Dales for a scenic, 22-mile hike, enjoyed head-to-head canoe races on Manvers Lake in Rotherham, and wound down at the picturesque Thornbridge Outdoors in Bakewell. Blessed with early summer sunshine, the event was as enjoyable as it was meaningful.

The Submariners Association were proud to be one of the sponsors, alongside Edward Thomas Contractors and Encyclis, their contribution helped us raise an impressive £16,000 (and growing). This significant sum brings us one step closer to opening a respite holiday lodge for our charity’s beneficiaries.

Gratitude also goes out to our attendees and supporters. Special thanks to Graeme McCabe, committee member, for another meticulously organised event, our mountain leaders for ensuring the safety of our hiking collective, and our hosts for providing stunning locations throughout the weekend.

At Military vs Cancer, we are the people in the middle who see the very best and very worst of what we do. We see so many people putting themselves out to support our cause and raising thousands of pounds in the process, at a time when every moment is so precious. Meanwhile, we also witness firsthand the reasons why that money is raised, extending our support wherever we are able.

Thank you all for being there to support us, whether you’re a face from the past or a friend we’ve made in the process.
