Submainers Charity Ride along South Downs Way

Four veteran members of the Gosport Branch of the Submariners Association are gearing up for an arduous challenge later this month. Their mission? Cycling the ‘South Downs Way’ to raise funds for the Veterans Outreach Support (VOS).

Embarking on April 17th through 19th, the group will tackle roughly one hundred miles from Winchester to Eastbourne over three days. Accompanied by three fellow Association Members, they anticipate rough terrain, challenging slopes, and potentially harsh weather conditions testing both their physical and mental resilience. Collectively, the four Submariners boast a combined age of 311, while their colleagues tally up to 204 years.

Their chosen charity, VOS, holds particular significance for the Gosport Branch Chairman due to the town’s notable veteran population, as evidenced by the 2021 Census.

VOS provides essential welfare, wellbeing, and clinical services to UK Armed Forces & Merchant Navy Veterans, as well as their spouses and partners. Established in 2008 as a peer support group commemorating twenty-five years since the Falklands conflict, the charity attained registered status in 2013, marking its fifteenth anniversary recently.

Interested individuals can contribute to this  cause via the provided JustGiving link, which has already garnered over £1,700 in donations as of 8pm on 05/04/2024. Additionally, readers are encouraged to explore the route and details of the ‘South Downs Way’.
