Busy Times at the Sunderland Branch: Supporting Charity and Military Events

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity at the Sunderland branch, filled with events and initiatives. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from our recent activities.

Supporting Military v Cancer at Gosforth RU Park

Our busy period kicked off with a trip to Gosforth RU Park to support the Military v Cancer event. We organised a minibus from Sunderland to the rugby ground, following a successful Veterans’ breakfast held at the Navy Club on Roker Avenue. This event was a wonderful opportunity to show our support for a cause that resonates deeply with our members.

Armed Forces Weekend and the New Gazebo

At the end of the month, we celebrated Armed Forces Weekend, a major event in our calendar. This year, we had the chance to test out our new gazebo. Despite the challenging weather on Friday night, with the assistance of four dedicated personnel, we successfully set it up. The gazebo became a central hub over the weekend, where we held a raffle for the Duck Submariner. The raffle was a success, bringing in a modest profit that will go towards our future initiatives.

Visit to HMS/m Anson

Capping off our busy period, two branch members recently visited HMS/m Anson, the City of Sunderland’s adopted boat, stationed in Faslane. Our members had the privilege of meeting Commander J. Critchley and his crew, learning first-hand about their experiences and operations.

Looking Ahead

As we look back on these events, we are proud of the dedication and spirit shown by our members. These activities not only strengthen our community bonds but also ensure that we continue to honour and support our veterans and active military personnel. We look forward to more events and opportunities to make a positive impact in the future.
